Chat
The chat system can seem confusing at a first glance. The default chat mode, the one you start the game in, is common chat. When you type something in common chat, all other players in the same area can see what you wrote. You might use common chat if you are telling someone to stop KS (kill stealing), asking him/her to squad, asking if any clerics passing by can resurrect you, or you want to ask some other question.

The next chat mode, the second icon from the left at the bottom of the chat window, is squad chat. You can use squad chat to communicate when you are doing a big quest, like someone’s FB, or you are grinding in squad.
Going right still is the faction chat mode, which lets all members of a faction communicate with each other.
In whisper chat, you can talk to someone privately and no one else can see what is being said. Something else that is similar to whisper is private message (PM), but the communication takes place in a separate window. To PM someone, right-click on his or her name and go to “Private Chat.”
In world chat (WC), people can use telecoustics to talk to the entire server. If you don’t have a telecoustic, you can’t rely to the person in WC, but you can still see what the person said. You can also PM that person or whisper them by clicking on their name in the world chat window. Generally people use WC if they want to sell something, are seeking an item, or need squad members for a quest.
Common chat mode allows you to see what is being said in all other modes of chat at the same time. In this case, different chat modes will be shown in different color fonts. For example, WC is a yellow font while faction chat is a blue font in the same window. However, if you click on any other chat mode, you will not see what is being said in the other chat modes, which is helpful a function. After all, do you really want to see someone’s stupid question from common chat about where to find the nearest banker while you’re trying to tell your squad that you need to be buffed again before you die on a friend’s FB59 quest?
Lastly, a horn enables someone’s message to be in seen every chat window, whether gamers like it or not. The user of the horn, a consumable item, can change the color and size of the font, so don’t be confused if you see something in a weird color while you’re in squad or some other chat. Here, I have highlighted the tabs of the different chat modes in the font colors they appear in.
